What is Custom Wheel Offset?

Offset is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel (surface of the wheel that touches the hub of the vehicle) to the center line of the wheel.  There are three types of offset.

Zero offset means that the mounting surface of the wheel is in the exact center of the wheel.

Positive offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is toward the front side of the wheel from the center of the wheel.  Positive offset is expressed in millimeters with a plus sign. (i.e. +35mm).  This example means the mounting surface is toward the front side of the wheel 35mm from the center line of the wheel.

Negative offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is toward the back side of the wheel from the center of the wheel.  Negative offset expressed in millimeters with a negative sign.  (i.e. -12mm).  This example means the mounting surface is toward the back side of the wheel 12mm from the center line of the wheel.

Below is a diagram showing a wheel with Positive offset.
